Default Ultragauge Died

I've had an UltraGuage for years--I'm not sure how many, but it's been a long time. It finally died. Is it still the best option out there? There are a lot of threads on this, but they appear to be pretty old discussions. I mostly use it for monitoring temperatures. Thanks for the recommendations.

Did you try using it in another car to verify it doesn’t work?

Yep. It won't get past the initial loading screen.

Try this...
Restoring an UltraGauge (Wired Version) AKA "GLOBAL RESET":
***NOTE: The down side of a global reset is that it will erase any configuration and calibration previously performed.

1. Unplug UltraGauge
2. Set the ignition to the RUN position
3. Press and hold the MENU key.
4. Plug in UltraGauge.
5. Wait 5 seconds, Release the MENU key. The MENU system will start.
6. Select UltraGauge Setup.. --> Restore ALL Defaults.

You will then be prompted to confirm. Once confirmed UltraGauge will reboot and begin Scanning for the interface and protocol used. Once found UltraGauge will begin Gauge discovery.

In case your UltraGauge is still broken, don't buy the Auto X60. I could not get this to communicate with my 2003 D2. I could get it to synch with our Toyota Highlander and Mercedes E350 but no luck with the Disco. Unfortunate since it is simple and less expensive option when coolant temp is all you wanted it for. I'm having to send mine back now.

To answer your original question about a replacement... I did a ton of research on this when I got my first Disco last winter and honestly...no. There isn't. It's still the best at what it does. I wanted to know the same info for my RRS since they too have a habit of their cooling system exploding at random (cross over pipe made of dumpster plastic and explodes at a plastic weld), but didn't want the more analog, Disco-era UG, so I instead got a bluetooth adapter and an app. It worked great, but I'll admit, it lost connection sometimes and other times I wouldn't use it since it was too much work to sync, launch the app, etc. for such a short trip. But that's like only having insurance every odd year or something... My two cents after having both popular methods - go with the UG. It's always on and it fits in really well with the Disco's interior design. I just mounted it on the left above the left-most HVAC vent and routed the wires inside and under the dash. No wire is visible. Super seamless.

Update: The process detailed by Juke in #4 above worked. Thank you.

Also, thanks to the others for the additional input, I'm glad the UltraGauge is working again. It's perfect for keeping an eye on the temperature.
