Re: Hubs

@drowssap - can't find that auction, but there are two with Taylor hubs, both around $150 shipped..

Example: Land Rover Discovery 2 Front Wheel Hub and Sensor New TAY100060 | eBay

and

1999 2004 Land Rover Discovery Front Hub Bearing Assembly with ABS Sensor | eBay

They look like the usual "perma-sealed" jobs on the straight axle fords, and are priced accordingly.

Will be back with more data ASAP.

Anyone have a link to output bearing for TC on the front?

And I just found this little gem:
Land Rover Discovery II 2 Transfer Case 99 00 01 02 03 04 w Locking CDL | eBay

How tough is it to swap T-cases? I like the idea of the locking CDL, which, if memory serves, is only on the 99's and 04's....

How to rig up a locking lever? What type of re-furb needed before I throw it in Cassandra? (seems like a good name for a high mileage, high maintenance white girl..)

All the best,

- dc

As one who just completed a D1 CDL linkage swap, SPEND THE $300 and get the ASHCROFT CABLE.

Trust me on this. A few problems with the D1 linkage:

1) You need to make sure you get all the parts (for me, the water proof boot/seal was torn and it was >$100 for a replacement, ruining all my savings. Since I'm in Utah and don't ford huge rivers, I'll take my chances with gasket seal around the torn edges.

2) The linkage adjustment procedure is a pain in the butt to get it right.

3) Chances are your CDL shifter will be frozen. Not difficult to free and re-grease when it's out of the car, but still a pain.

An Ashcroft unit will set you back a couple hundred more, but you will save hours in installation time (just plug and play) and the cable actuation is not only smoother but more reliable.

Thanks for the hub links, I"ll file them away for future use.

Guys,

reviving this thread with an update. I had to leave the rover in the garage for a week, was working and on the road with family.

Took it to the gym last night after it had sat, and the front end sounds like the Tin Man getting raped by a belt sander.....

I'm going to put it up on the jack this morning and check wheel bearings, but what are the odds that they both went out at the same time? Slim, right?

Diff has fluid, will get it checked for metal, but something in the front axle is very, very wrong.

Do the axle-shafts go bad? Haven't really heard about those much, despite multiple high-mileage disco's.

Will report back with more as I tinker with it today, but as of now, the disco is quite ill.

Well - It looks like my T-case took a $#*t.

Got a pretty decent leak from the front output (where it spits into the front D/Shaft).

Puddle of oil, both clear and black underneath Transfer case from last night. Appx size of basketball.

Put it in neutral, got a decent amount of slop in front shaft - what does this mean?

Cranked it and back/forthed in driveway, can hear horrid grinding sound from under truck, can't tell exactly where its coming from, but I can smell hot gear oil.

At a juncture now - there are T-cases available locally for ~$300 that are used.

Would like to have CDL, so might hunt up an '04 - gotta weigh costs and PITA factor.

Anyone done this? Was searching for swap thread but haven't found it yet.

Ahhhh......rovers. I'm so glad I love them. Who needs disposable income anyway?
