Hopefully someone that knows the D2 radio wiring better will chime in, but from what I can find, that amp-cont wire on your new head unit is used to connect an external amp. And in reading other sources, it seems like there is perhaps a stock external amp in the car. If it's not being powered, that could also explain why you're not hearing anything. If that is the case, figuring out what wire in the D2 harness powers it and getting it connected to the new head unit would be a critical step. If there is a stock amp in the car, and it's bad, then bypassing it would also be critical for success.

I have probably reached the end of my ideas for you. I'm traveling for meetings, so not able to look at my own car or the shop manual for wiring assistance.

cheers all!

I have also managed to speak to my supplier and they also think I should start with the amp-cont wire. That should be connected to wire 9 on C0922 which is the Audio amplifier spatial imaging enable.

Cannot try it out right away though since I broke the cable connecting the main uint to the screen and have to wait for a replacement ... gotta make sure to be more careful next time lol!

After that I just need to figure out how to connect key1 and key2 which apparently are needed for the steering wheel controls.

will give a full update once I have the new cables and can continue on this...

What install kit are you using? Have you tried a Metra 8600? Most installs I've seen with LR vehicles is that nobody makes a proper kit and they need to be re-pinned to get the speakers set up. You also need a VW antenna adapter most likely

so, new unit-to-screen cable arrived and was able to try again... This time i tried to follow the seller instruction and apart from the two ISO connectors, I connected the car "Audio amplifier spatial imaging enable" wire to the unit's amp cont wire. Unfortunately that did not work and still not sound.

Now he asked me to short the car "AUX feed" and "Audio amplifier spatial imaging enable' connectors into the ISO cable which goes to the ACC wire - does that make sense?

I will dig through my notes tonight when I get home and see what I did when I did a similar install.

That is a good idea - keeping notes of all the mods we do to our trucks Supplier is suggesting the following:

Will try it out in the week end, unless I get a better idea from here before

so I went and looked back at all the notes / diagrams I have and unfortunately I didn't take pictures of that, but from the diagram that I have from crutchfield (they have a pretty good database for all that stuff that is free) it looks like pin 5 on the grey connector the rd/bu wire is the trigger wire for the amp, do you have that connected to the amp trigger wire from your head unit? Also since this system has an amp I am pretty sure that I used the preamp rca outs on my head unit and wired rca plugs into the wiring harness to plug these into (not positive on this, but might be worth a try).

If none of this works for you I could try and pull my dash apart to take a look, but it may be a couple weeks before I have a chance to do that.

hi thanks for your input. thanks for the offer, but i can never ask you to do that... i will try to figure it out with the manufacturer.

So you think I should connect the grey connector ('System enable' on the sheet I posted?) to the amp cont wire? What about the 'Audio amplifier spatial imaging enable' connector?

Sorry for taking long to reply but this is a rather unfamiliar field for me, so trying to learn and understand what I am doing.

yes, start by connecting the blue system control line to the system enable pin 5 on the grey connector, that will trigger the amp to come on. If doing this doesn't get things working, then I would think that the next thing to look at would be the source input to the amp (whether it is a powered speaker output or needs to be a line level preamp out).
