Here is an aftermarket unit for $42. Where did you get the upper unit and what did you pay on it?

I noticed chubbs878 is for lower hose and jasonstaczek is for upper hose.

Yes. He replaced the upper and I'm suggesting he replace the lower unit too before he's repeating this whole scherade. Only on his back in a Fiesta parking lot next time.

Good suggestion to prevent another failure and need for some attempt at a temp repair to get home. It's relatively easy to access for changing from above from my limited hands-on experience a couple of days ago.

I may have over-exaggerated since you had to get specific about it

Probably not an exaggeration, that's where many of us, myself included would likely be trying to find source of leak and attempt repairs if not previously accessed under more ideal circumstances and/or required tools unavailable.

I definitely do not want to repeat this business. Already did two emergency upper repairs in the dark and rain and traffic. I'm sure you're correct that the bottom must be in a similar state.

Now I'm wondering if I should also replace 13 year old radiator while I'm at it? Last highway trip (stop and go in Seattle traffic), ECU was reporting 210-221. Draining coolant is such a mess and hassle. Is it worth a pre-emotive strike?

REPLACE EVERY DAMN THING AT ONCE: thermostat, radiator, every hose and plastic overflow line, fan, viscous clutch, all of it....and be done. you're going to blow a head gasket and have a liner slip on you running it that hot. bullet-proof the system, everything new, temps at 200 or less and move on to the next thing. otherwise, you will be returning to this catastrophe every couple of weeks. I've been there and done that, take some good advice lol

And the Homedepot part when not using a thermostat, nor tee :

I am looking at the brass tee that has a square body, so as to tap for bleed valve and tap for pillar mounted temp gauge and oil pressure gauge. I also like the idea of heater hose shut-off, but not at the expense of no thermostat or tee. Something like this:

with this tapped into the flat side:
