Using battery connections to clear codes
I was chatting with a guy today who said that if you want to clear all the codes from the computer's memory (like if you have replaced the ABS modulator yourself and need to clear the fault codes) that you can do this by disconnecting both battery cables, waiting five seconds, then touching the battery cables together? Any thoughts on this? Could it do more harm than good? Oh, and how can you find out your radio codes? Is there anythign else that disconnecting the battery will screw up?
As soon as u disconnect the negative terminal the computers memory will become corrupt, it will clear all the codes and will relearn idle and some other functions, to find the radio code u need to call or go to the dealership, if u call u need to give them ur VIN number and they may ask for proof of ownership. I know that on the Range Rover u need to also roll down and up the windows so it can re learn the one touch/anti-trap, as well as open and close the sunroof, not sure about a Disco's windows though.

If your truck has OBD2 you can only ckear codes with a good scanner or test book, same with ABS, scanner or test book and there aren't many scanner that can touch a Rovers ABS.
As for touching the cable ends together, buy a new alternator first cause that is one of the best way to fry the diodes.
Radio codes, if the truck is not too old can be gotten from Rover only. Sometimes a dealer will write it in your trucks service folder, but not always. Some selling dealers will note the radio code in your trucks sales folder.
By the way, did your friend work as a mechanic at Sears?
Just kidding, I think.

leave battery disconnected for hour or so may or may not clear the codes, either way you will have to enter the security code back into the radio if you disconnect at all. tapping the cables together will do nothing for ya.
