Default vacumn leak and smoke test results

I got a CEL and the code was lean on both banks so I did the smoke test. it appears the leak is at the front of the upper manifold gasket. this surprises me since I installed it about 40k miles ago (during a head gasket job) and torqued it properly..... also the bolts seem tight. my question is are leaks from this area common?

Are you sure it's not coming from one of the fuel injectors o-rings? You might need to remove the drive belt, pull the 4 bolts for the A/C and move it aside to see better.

To answer your original question, No, it's not common to have a leak there after only 40k miles if everything was installed correctly.

1174 is lean on bank 2 (RH)

1171 is lean on bank 1 (LH)

Trouble codes from RAVE.pdf

I have had both 1171 and 1174 before and both times it was a vac leak so I think you are on the right track. I made a "Smoke test with a Cigar" thread because of those codes. https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...s-cigar-54235/

One time it was the intake tube not on tight and the second time was the lower o-ring of an injector. The intake tube was an easy fix the injectors took a bit more work but isn't super hard.

I did take somewhat less than a quarter turn on the manifold bolts and it's idling at lower rpm. temporary.....

we'll see what happens tomorrow

I had the same codes pop up a while back. While I still have yet to address them, I did smoke the intake with our Bluepoint smoke machine and found a badly leaking lower injector seal behind the A/C compressor. Strange because the seals are new and only have around 6k miles on them since the rebuild.
I'll tear into it when I get time.
