Valve Job
What should I expect to pay for a valve job on a 2003 Disco 80k miles. It has developed significant valve noise and I have tried all of the quick fixes. My local mechanic has the engine apart and it has excessive ware on the rocker shafts. He has suggested replacing rocker arms and rotating the shafts 90 degrees so the unworn side of the barring surface is in contact with the rockers. If he reuses the shafts he is looking for $1,700 including new magnicor wires and new valve cover gaskets. The alternative is purchasing new rocker shaft assemblies for 1,200 ea for a total cost of $3,500. Anyone have experience with reusing shafts? Disco Mike any thoughts?
Thanks,

You are mainly paying for labor on that I believe. Rocker shafts form British Pacific are only $40 a shaft, rocker arms are only $12.50 each. You can have the heads completely redone for about $350 a set, now that does not get you new rocker shafts and arms but you may be able to supply them and have them put them on or just do it yourself. Gaskets will cost at least $150- $200 for a set, maybe less if you look around.
I hope this helps a little.

"He has the heads off the trk? "
Heads are still on the truck, only valve covers are off. I was told to take a look at DAP Enterprises http://www.dap-inc.com/they have great pricing on Rover engine parts.$32.00 for the shafts, $7.00 for the rockers. Anything else I should look at while I'm at it?
Thanks
