I have a vibration coming from somewhere and I can’t pinpoint it. At about 30 mph it starts and doesn’t really go away but it does lessen a bit. It did it when I first purchased it and an alignment was the first thing I did with it. I also put on some brand new tires. I don’t feel it in my steering wheel. When I took it in to the mechanic (Austin Rover Works in Round Rock, TX) for a head gasket job, I asked them to also look at this issue. They said it was most likely from the lift and tires. It has maybe a 2” lift and some Toyo M/T Open County 275/55R20. I have these same tires but in 33’s on my F250 and it was never noticeable. The tires that were on the disco previously were of the same size but different brand but not as aggressive and it still had the vibration. Mechanic also said the drive shafts were in good shape as I asked them to check those as well. What else could cause any vibration? Should I get a second opinion at another mechanic? My closest option would be Hill Country British in San Antonio.

 

Did the vibration start after new tires? If so, that's where I'd start to ensure the balance is correct. Sometimes balancers are off for whatever reason and need a second go. If you haven't greased your prop in awhille, I'd take the shafts off to inspect rather than just a visual look and feel.

 

Also maybe it’s time to replace the rubber doughnut at the aft end of the rear drive shaft.

 

No it was doing it before the new tires. And I did bring a grease gun home from work for that purpose but it ended up not working. Figures. But I’ll get that done for sure.

Is the vibration felt in the steering wheel or in your seat? If it’s through the steering wheel it’s most likely through the front wheels or your front drive shaft is about to let go (ask me how I know). If your feeling it through your seat it’s most likely from the rear running gear.
