viscous fan
Sooo, I have the original fan on my '03, she has 115k on her. I have a fan from an '02 with a brand new viscous clutch. The question is... is the difference between the 99-02 fan and the 03-04 fan enough to make switching out for the 02 with the new clutch a bad idea. in the end I am just trying to save a few hundred dollars. but do not wish to do that at the cost of the engine not getting the proper air flow. I have no cooling issues, all runs well. but a new clutch is certainly better than one with 115k on it..

When you look at the fan, is the pitch of the blades (depth) greater? If so, and same quantity of blades, and same diameter, the steeper pitch will move a little more air. This is only an issue at idle of very slow traffice. At highway speed the air flow is much greater than the fan. Just try holding a large pizza box out the window at 65 mph...
IMHO if it was a great difference, you would see a lot of guys with the smaller one changing out to the larger one, given our heating issues. I think the 03 - 04 fan looks very similar to a D1 fan as well. I replaced mine with a really deep one from a Chevy Blazer.
