Does it make any sense to put a little anti-seize compound on the threads before installing the viscous fan? It was such a pain (literally) to get off that if I have to repeat the process I thought it may be easier with a bit 'o compound. No?

 

Wouldn't hurt anything (I never have, but things don't rust out here on the left coast like they do in MN, I've worked on cars there, my favorite wrench was the one with the red and green hoses connected to tanks), the nut self tightens because of the direction of rotation of the water pump. (especially on startup)

 

When you spin the fan back do not use a wrench to tighten it, just hand snug.

How often do you plan on changing it?
Honestly if you put a brand new one on now by the time it fails your truck will be ready for the crusher.

 

Once I took mine of the first time, I have had it off probably ten times, not as much effort on the repeat times.

 

I have to at some point figure out where my tiny coolant leak is coming from but its too cold right now to deal with it. I put my PAS pump in and put everything together for now. It was just such a bear trying to get it off in the first place that I didn't want as much trouble when I have to go back at and deal with my coolant leak.

 

It wont be as bad next time around, the reason it was so hard to take off the first time is because it has been on the truck for many many years and many many heat cycles.
If you wanted you could just break the nut loose once a year and spin it out a few threads.
