I wondered about that. Maybe it was never a tapping liner. But could this bearing realyhave been working out that slowly over the last 50k miles.? Also the sound was really only audible once engine was hot.

What are these things worth sold as a parts truck?

heck it all depends on location, rust, and how everything is quality wise on the rest of it

Put it all back together and it runs great. Wonder how long it will last with the bearing hanging out?

You just left it that way? I would have at least tied on a good buzz, pressed it back in & screwed it down. I mean, something. anything. Dropping that sump is a b*%^+ and you were already there

I see your point I tried pushing it back in from underneath. Its not budging and the lifter has cut about half way through it. This engine to me is not a candidate for a rebuild. I dont see why it wont run along time like this. Pump is making good pressure and flow. So, even though psi reading is down because of the one bearing problem the rest should get adequate flow of oil. Psi drop only indicates loss of a restriction not a reduction of flow in my case and where that bearing is located it should only divert flow somewhat to the very last cam bearing.

It may in fact run a while as is, but if you plan to keep the truck, look for a good used motor or maybe a Turner block to build up in the meantime.

Not really. Yes, the pump is still providing good flow. Problem is that most of that flow is going to the now open hole in the block instead of the rest of the bearings. If the pressure is low you are going to eventually have metal/metal contact and a dead motor.

Really not trying to **** on your optimism, I agree with running it for all it's worth. I just think it's really a question of how long now.

Was wondering if anyone has a picture or diagram that shows the proper alignment of the cam bearing journal holes in relation to the block. Mine is very similar in that it has started to come out but not enough to tough the lifter but enough to lose oil pressure at idle. I might be able to press this back in but need to be sure that its aligned before trying this cheap fix before having to just tear the whole thing down. Any point of references on the block that line up with the journal holes... any input would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the cam out yet? That bearing is supposed to be a press fit. They normally walk due to an overheat event where the block expands due to the high temperature and the bearing walks out. The hole is at approximately the 7 o'clock position. You probably can pull it back in using a bolt and large washers, I would use some bearing loctite to seal it in place.
