Prime example of a D2 to avoid. If the owner doesn’t know what’s under the hood, I’d move along to the next one.

I sort of disagree. The truck could be dealer serviced and the owner doesnt need to know.

It’s a 50/50 shot, but I’m not there to look at it or ask questions. It could be great, or it could be horrible, but on CL I avoid ad’s like that. I haven’t brought home a money pit yet, and don’t plan on it. Knowledge is key!

Another CL tip on ad’s like that = could be a car dealer using CL to post ad’s that look like an individual vs a dealer. Seen it time & time again with newer LR’s and other makes.

That CL ad looks interesting. A couple things however:

1. That is an S model - no sunroofs and those are vinyl seats. The seats and console lid can easily be replaced with leather if you prefer. I also doubt it has the Harmon Kardon sound system. The wheels are the 16" wheels also
2. I would ask for photos under the rear of the frame, just to confirm it has no rust.
3. Run the carfax to confirm the history and that it was from Cali.
4. Based just on the condition of the hood it looks like it was a garage queen, almost every Disco that old has a faded clearcoat hood unless it spent a lot of time in a covered garage.
5. Can you go see it and drive it? It's a no reserve auction, I bet it goes for less than $5000.
5.

Off subject, but the "timing belt" is actually the serpentine belt according to the receipt shown on Ebay. Only $62.49 for parts and $382.49 labor???

Is that what a dealer actually charges to replace the belt?

Got a used compressor on Ebay for $80 (new one was $350+); however, in my car the compressor is hidden undernearth so removing it and installing a new one took around 5 hours. Mechanic charged $140 for 5 hours of labor and got it done, pretty reasonable IMHO. Then added some freon, the A/C started to work! Fantastic! (or so I thought). But after a few days, the A/C got warm again befor finally loosing all cooling ability. Fine. Went and bought A/C freon with dye in it to detect leaks; recharged the system, went during the night to inspect for leaks - NOTHING. ZERO leaks. Then i got thinking, well, my windows fog up like crazy during winter, and most likely my heator core is bad and leaking coolant into my evaporator core, which is probably where the freon leak is. My friend mechanic refused to work on heator core, saying that I will need to drop the car off for entire month and he'll do it for $400. Not having my ride for a month in a rural Texas area was out of the question, so I went to an independent shop to get a quote, as was quoted at $1650 for heator core/evap swap! So that's clearly wasn't going to happen. Finally, asked my other friend who used to own a car repair shop to help me out. He fortunately agreed and we spent 2 days working 12 hours per day to remove the dash, get to the heator core/evap which was barried deep under the dash as well as being secured by outside screws..Recharged the system finally, and finally I have my A/C working! LOL
I read somewhere you could bypass the heather core with 5 minutes of work.

That's what I would do. Buy an electric heater and plug it into the cig lighter for heat.

In fact I do coincidentally, but the OP indicated an express interest in a white 03, mine is black 99 so I assumed it would not be of interest. To each their own...

wow- I'm def in the wrong biz. That's $444.98 for a $20 (retail) belt and about 10 mins of work. Just, wow.

Yup. That is why new owners must learn to work on the cars solo... They are crooks.
