Default Water Ingress Passenger Footwell

Hi All ,

D2 - 2004

Quick update finally got the windscreen engineer back out and he’s now refitted the bottom outer windscreen finisher seal and will be putting a bit of silicon behind it also do that it sits tight up again the screen.

Something i brought to his attention was when the scuttle panel is removed and the air intake is visible the water would just come of the windscreen and straight into the air intake box and out behind the glove box.

See image below

Air Intake is it supposed to have a cover ?

My question is does this filter have a cover to prevent this from happening ?

What I did to prevent water coming in was put a piece or Perspex which runs the length of the Air Intake and an inch longer with side to create a hood so water now runs over the Perspex and into the drain holes on the inner wings 😉

🤞 has a few heavy showers and all is 🦴 dry.

Cheers

Mine did not have a cover and I don't think they do. When I had my cowl off it looks like the fresh air intake should create a dam for the water to run off the sides if everything is working correctly. The lip sticks out about .75" or so from the firewall in upward direction. In you pictures it doesn't look like it stick out that far. It also looks like the sealant someone gooped on it might actually create a ramp that water would flow over and into the intake. Path of least resistance, which water likes.

Hey , the silicone was applied by myself and it may look as ifs created a ramp but it hasn’t , did this to give it an extra seal as I thought it may have been leaking from there but obviously not .

known issue.....water runs right into cabin intake. ....find a suitable universal weather seal like at autozone, cut to size and silicone to the upper lip of intake, to give a bit of a 'gutter' protection......
