Default Water Pump Question

THere is a leak on the front of the engine on my 99 DII believe it to be the water pump gasket. There doesn't seem to be any thing wrong with the pump, The fan feels tight and no wobble. Can't see any coolant leaking around the shaft.
I have not replaced a water pump before, thinking of pulling it to inspect it before buying a new pump.
Ok here is my questions
1 Does the gasket just leak sometime and needs to be replaced?
2 I read about what sealant to use I would like some advice on that. Blue Permatex was mentioned.
3 Is the fan hub 32 mm? I hope so I ordered a wrench. The set at Advance auto only went down to 36mm and wouldn't fit. Too big
Still reading threads to get some idea of what I am about to start.
I have the Rave and will drain and replace the coolant from instructions here. I think this shouldn't be that hard. I have turned a wrench a few times.

Thanks

With your mileage, if the pump hasn't been replaced do it and save lots of grief later down the road.
Might look at British Parts of Utah or Atlantic British for their Air Tex water pump with the brass empellor, good price, two year warranty and a real stout brass impellor.

I believe the water pump was replaced a few years ago. but you may be right a new one would prevent issues down the road. Still going to wait inspect it when it comes off I have the time to wait and order it. Might as well get a serpentine belt as and maybe a fan clutch at the same time.
Sealer????

Might also look at your 3 idler pulleys to make sure they are not warn out.

I did not have the time (being lazy) or the $18 the dealer wanted for a WP gasket, so I used blue RTV. Still holding togther, but a $3 gasket is better. Here is pix of old wobbly pump (175K - D1) and identical D2 pump at 114K - unknown if it had been replaced, but it looked so nice in the boneyard for $5. Were I buying new, I'd go with that one with the larger brass impeller.

Remember to slap that wrench sharply with a hammer... and keep WP bolts arranged in order, some may be different lengths.
