Default Water pump replacement

Me and a couple mechanical guys will be changing out my water pump in the next couple weekends due to a "weep" in my current pump. After a pressure test, everything else looks good except for the "weep," which they called a leak until I asked to speak to the technician. Interesting how the story changes when you talk to the source!

Question: Is changing out the water pump (coolant pump) as easy as it appears in the RAVE manual?

FYI......For what ita worth, one of my friends with a 97 LR had a similar weep from the coolant pump area and tried adding Bars stop leak additive. No drips for the past three years. I just tried it myself after detecting a slow drip from the gasket. So far its working well after two weeks. (Bars Heavy Duty stop leak)

I'd put Bars Leaks in an old car I don't expect to last another year. In the Rover or in any of the cars I have right now, my tendency is to replace the worn parts with new and not worry about when the stop leak is going to give out or cause other unexpected problems. I have 2 mottos when it comes to cars:
[ol][*]Fix it right[*]If you can't fix it, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway. [8D]
[/ol]Changing it out is straightforward and inexpensive if you DIY, according to others here.

The hardest part is getting the belt back on.
Other than that its easy.

Thanks, 2 more questions. After looking thru my RAVE.

1. Is it easier to remove the coolant pump from inside the hood or underneath the truck? (sorry, g-friend has has the truck for a week so I can't look at the engine compartment)

2. Do I need anything to make getting the belt off and on easier?

-thanks, Ug

The water pump on Disco I's itsmuch easier to get from top the radiator fan shroud just unclips and you can get to it.

You will need a tool to hold the fan clutch in place.

The belt on a Disco I's are a tight fit between the pulley on the water pump and the crank pulley.

If you can do a Chevy 350 water pump the Rover is as easy.
