which weight oil should I use?

I'm going with Rotella 15w-40 from here on out. As I've told Spike before, I noticed a huge difference when I made the switch. The engine was running much quieter.

Okay, I am definately doing the oil change tomorrow, gonna go with the Rotella 15w-40. I hope all goes well, because I just found out I'll be making a round trip out to NorthEast PA which will be about 2,000 miles over the next week or so, and this will be the largest road trip I've taken my DII on. I sure am glad that I've had the support of the members of this discussion board to deal with past issues, and I can't see anything that could be a major problem for this trip.

If you will have a laptop with you, take the RAVE. If not, take RAVE on a usb memory drive. You never know. Might also be time on the trip for a quick pass at a good salvage yard, most are on-line.

FWIW, I run Amsoil full synthetic European 5W-40 that meets the D2 specs with extended drain intervals and oil analysis using the Amsoil oil filter year round. Running mine 55K now this way. I did an Amsoil flush when I bought it used, and then at 5K for first change (little more dino oil crude may have been loosened up since the flush, so wanted to get it out of there) and then based on oil analysis since then.

To each there own. Find something that makes your rover run smooth and meets specs and does not give you hard starts in the winter. Have some logic for why you use it. Check it regularly that it is full and that it can still do what is is suppose to do to protect your engine, and change as necessary oil/filter regularly based on your plan.

Stock filter and Castrol 10w-40 mineral. Do it regularly and don't over-think it.
