Weird Knock 99 DII
Hey all,
Got a question for all of you here. I got a 99 DII with about 160,000. Tonight on my long, 3 mile, commute to work my truck seemed to get a weird knock fromwhat soundedlike thefront passanger side. Iopened the hoodbut found nothing notable. It seemed to havewentaway when the RMPS went uppast 1250.Came back when the RMP dropped. but then the Temperature light cameon. I wasnot over heating... Kinda a blizzard happening here. When i was driving it didntdo it. Got to work, parked and went in. 10 minutes later when out to check it out. Started the truck noknocking anymore. Checked the oil, antifreeze, powersteering all good to go.Any ideas.

I wouldn't drive it much without having it checked out better, engines for 99 or more expensive then the truck.
What temp light came on and why do you ASSUME it was not overheating?

Just because it is below zero does not mean that the engine cannot overheat.
Have your coolant tested for it's freeze point.
If it the freeze point is to high the coolant can tuen to slush and not pump through the radiator, you will then overheat.

Sorry guys for the confusion but i checked it today... The light was a temp warning light for the tranny. I am checking the fluid level tomorrow morning and probably going to replace the fluid and filter so to make sure. I think it might be because my traction control was going pretty much the whole ride because of the snow. The anti freeze is new ichanged that about 3 months ago. This knocking iscoming from the passanger side of the engine, I'm guessing maybe a rocker arm or lifter. Is therea way to diagnoseit before ripping the top end off.
