CAN ANYONE GIVE ME LIGHT ON HOW TO REMEDY AN ANNOYING CLUNK I HAVE WHEN I SHIFT TO REVERSE ON MY 98 DISCO.IT HAPPENS ONCE THE TRANS IS HOT OTHER THAN THIS EVERYTHING WORKS FINE JUST THAT #"$/ CLUNK.ALSO I NEED TO CHANGE THE AC EVAPORATOR, WILL I HAVE TO TEAR THE WHOLE DASH APART OR IS THERE SOME OTHER MORE MERCIFUL WAY OF DOING IT? Have you checked the oil level in the t/case, how many miles on the truck, is the t/case noisey while driving?
As for the evap, you get to pull the dash, it is a buger of a job, how mechanical are you?

THE TRUCK HAS 108000 AND THERE IS NO NOISE COMING FROM TCASE CHANGED TRANNY FLUID 300 MILES AGO.SOMEONE TOLD ME TO CHANGE U JOINTS BUT IT IS STRANGE IT ONLY HAS THE CLUNK WHEN SHIFTED TO REVERSE AND AFTER THE TRANSMISSION IS HOT IF IT WERE THE U JOINTS SHOULD'NT IT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME? The klunk could bea u-joint, do you geet them lubed, how about the slip joints on the drive shafts?
There is a given amount of klunk that will come from the t/case which is normal all wheel klunk and you could also have a bad output shaft/bearing.
I would start with the u-joints, make sure they are lubed and still in good shape.
