just a thought but, if you got one laying around, teenager fingers are generally smaller and can reach the CPS just fine. Had mine do it twice. Life skills ;P

On a D2 the fuel pump only comes on once the CKPS sends a signal to the ECU
Per the D22 WM:
Battery voltage is supplied from the fuel pump relay to the fuel pump which operates. If engine cranking is not detected by the ECU within a thirty second period, the ECU will 'time-out', de-energising the fuel pump relay.
In theory pump should operate for a short period of time regardless of sensor condition, if engine doesn't start due to sensor timeout would occur. Have not had the opportunity to confirm this myself on D2, most modern vehicles have similar systems. A jumper can be used in the relay socket if troubleshooting of pump is required.

Issue seems to be resolved with 1) New battery and 2) New CKPS.

Problem solved... for now...
