Default What is this connector?

Replacing my passenger, rear o2 I found that the connector pictured had fallen into the driveshaft. I am taking the picture laying on the ground, with my head toward the front of my DII. The wire connector is by the front of the transfer case. Just above the front driveshaft.

I can't really see where it goes.

Thanks,

if you can see the colors on the wires (usually a base color and a stripe) the RAVE electrical guide has the drawings in color and lists the colors used. Knowing number of pins in connector will also help the hunt.

It it really up there. I was having trouble finding a position that would get more than one hand on it.

Sigh... I'm sure it is important. I shifted into 4lo and the light didn't come on the dash but it did shift and rolled. I was hoping against hope it was just an indicator light. I'll get dirty today and figure it out.

That was a lazy post by me. Sorry. I've been through hell on my Rover every day for weeks.

Shouldn't have anything to do with low range, that's the wiring in the green sheething in your picture.

The damaged wires are for the resistor inline with the diff-lock sensor.

It may be this part here. Differential Lock Switch Harness (Genuine Part # YMQ105170) - Land Rover switches/control unit/actuators from Atlantic British
What is this connector?-diff-lock-switch-harness.jpg
It connects to the diff lock switch I believe:

Here is the page from the RAVE:

That's it... I traced it back and felt/sensed the black connectors on the back.

So, since I do not have a CDL lever installed is this important to my life?

I do not think it should be a problem since you are not using your diff lock. I also think that you would be okay even if you needed to lock the diff. I believe it is just a switch to light up the light on the dash so you don't forget you have the diff locked. I could be wrong. It may be tied into the computer and have some effect on the transmission or something. I'll need to read the Rave a little to confirm this.

It looks like you should be okay without the new plug and wires for now.

From the Rave (Transfer Box info..pdf):
1)-Fixed setting of differential lock warning lamp switch on vehicles fitted with differential lock

From the Rave (more diff lock warning lamp.pdf):
2)-A differential lock warning lamp switch connected to the SLABS ECU and operated by movement of the selector fork and shaft is screwed into the top of the output housing. The switch connects to earth when the differential lock is engaged.

3)- The differential lock warning lamp is located in the instrument pack and provides a warning to the driver when the ignition is switched on that the differential lock is engaged. The warning lamp illuminates in a Red colour. With the lock engaged, the traction control and electronic brake distribution warning lamps will also be illuminated. Disengagement of the differential lock should be carried out with the ignition switched off. The warning lamps must be extinguished when the ignition is switched on again.

I think that this is saying:

1) There is a fixed setting for the diff lock so you are good if you don't engage it
2) The diff lock warning switch is connected to the SLABS and tells the computer when the diff lock has been engaged
3) If the switch is bad (or not hooked up like yours), and you engage diff lock, the switch won't tell the computer the diff is locked and the TC and electronic brake distribution may not work as they should.

Ah. I've never used hill descent except to hear the ding and turn it off. I do want to make my untapped CDL accessible but that's a little far down my wish list at the moment.

Jared you are the RAVE librarian! Thank you sir!

I am confident I am not going to spend 53 dollars on the part but a little splicing might be in order next time I drop the driveshaft (to give my hands a little more room).
