What did you do with your DII today?
Where did you get your alternator? Thanks
Unloaded all my camping gear from a nice weekend out in Salida.
Odometer now reading 99,847. I'm going to have to get out and do the 100K dance pretty soon. Of course, that's probably about the time my head gasket will blow!

Finally got my old AC compressor off. When I drained it I only got about an ounce of oil out of it and there was a ton of debris in it. Shaven green bits and little bits of copper/metal. I guess that confirms it's imminent failure.
Eeerrrr, I posted this originally under the wrong section .............. going senile
I replaced ONE of my engine mountings on a D2 TD5 today, it took 6 hours excluding unscheduled interruptions and stoppages (from neighbours and friends dropping in and wanting favours). Believe me if someone says it's easy and straightforward they are JOSHING you. Admittedly, I did it without any assistance and still have the drivers side to do followed by the 2 autobox mountings. The second one, the drivers side, surely can't be as difficult as the first. I'm informed the autobox mountings are a real 'push over', hahaha, but someone wrote that about the engine mounts so I'm very sceptical now.
Oh, I've got some cuts (plus blood), scars and gouges to my head, arm and hand to prove how easy it all is ................ I'm sure cars are designed masochists to be as difficult as possible and inflict endless pain to the DIY mechanics.

Now to address the transfer box output oil seals and reduce the oil leaks generally and adjust the handbrake. All good fun this wrenching lark eh
Getting there ........... slowly
Installed the drivers side engine mount today it only now leaves the gearbox mounts and having checked those out they look a lot easier than the engine. Adjusted the steering box also as I had taken the intercooler pipes out to make access to the engine mount easier. Also removed the turbo oil feed banjo as I didn't want to slip with the sockets and shear that off. Only LR could put the steering box adjuster below the gpower steerin feed pipe which seriously restricts access almost to zero. The other real PITA was putting the fuel cooler lower bolts back in as they had originally been installed with a blue threadlock on them which was still 'active' during re-tightening.

Also had time to adjust the handbrake down to 3 notches of actuation as well - now it holds on the handbrake OK.
No cuts or bruises today - makes a change

Next is to attack the transfer box output seals and stem the oil leaks then change all the transmission oils and ATF.
Finally bought 5 new shoes for the disco. Holy crap it went from 32 vibrations down to 2 distinct vibrations.
Installed 5 pirelli scorpion verde. Got a cracked deal on them.. they are all season high way tires. But that's where my rover lives.

Dear Lord you guys put me to shame. What did I do today? Stared at the wiper blade conversion kit that I bought over 3 weeks ago from Rover's North and asked myself again 'ok.. why haven't I done this yet?' I heard it only take 15 minutes.
Anyone want to bang my head against a wall and tell me that it's so easy that my 88 year old grandmother could do it? What am I waiting for?... I think the part that I'm overthinking is this:
1) why don't they supply the nut you need for the conversion with the kit
2) Do I need the Discovery I nut cover or can I just reuse the Discovery II (someone said that with the new nut (god I hope that's the right term) the old caps don't work?) I was disappointed to see that it was included in the photograph in Rover's North ad but not included in the kit.
3) Need to figure out what size wrench to use to get the damn things off.
I know.. I know.. if I can replace my coolant reservoir I can do the wiper blade conversion. Seriously.. What is my problem?!?!?!????????? I know it's bad. I have no excuses..

1) pretty sure you just reuse the nuts that hold your DII wiper arms on.
2) I don't know. I'll look when I get home. But function over form here. It's a nut cover. You live in TC. You'll be lucky if the frame doesn't rust out from under you and you're worried about a cover for the nut on the wiper arm?? Just get the things on.
3) It's been over two years since I did this 15 minute operation, but IIRC it's a 13mm nut. You may beed to pry the end of the blade off the splined wheel that makes the wiper move, after you've removed the nut.
Since the new ones didn't come with hardware, don't have too many beers at Little Fleet and drop it!
Good luck. We're all counting on you. M-22 and all that.
