I'd love this thread. I had a Disco for a couple years, during which time it was our daily driver and only vehicle!
we still only have one vehicle (Volvo xc90), but I'm getting the rover fever. The LR3s don't have the same deep discounts as Discos, but at the same time, I'm hesitant to buy another disco, knowing the best I can do is 13 yo. If I do buy, I'm buying from a sunshine state and bringing it back to the Midwest
I looked at 16 in 4 states over a three week period and you learn after the first four or five what to look for (real life as opposed to just reading about them in the forum). I settled on one that had higher mileage but I was able to source the service records up thru the last six months that it spent on the secondary market after being traded in by the last owner for a new Mercedes.
There are still good ones out there, you just have to look and be PATIENT. Hard to do when you have the fever but with some common sense and a little work on your part you can have an older daily driver with higher mileage.
I spent a lot of time doing preventative maintenance over the mods I want to do to it. I keep telling myself that once it's mechanically sound then I'll have fun with the other things. And I have to say that despite putting 35,000 miles on it over the past 12 months (I used to run the roads of Georgia as a part of my job) it's never once left me stranded.
In light of your mechanical expertise I assume you don't get the hero's welcome from your family when it is fixed. if I didn't get that I'd be driving something else. More power to you!
Lol....yea, maybe from my son, but the mrs. doenst care.
I have another problem. Doing the inline mod, and realized it dont have the lower plastic T. My lower hose is molded and has a junction for the heater core and one for the reservoir.
And i cut the lower hose before i realized my error

Geez. Same thing happened to me. Exact. Same. Thing.
The trials of Rover ownership. In the end, what owns whom?

To maintain my diplomatic status, I have no comment to be made about what inanimate object decides to claim ownership to which sentient being......oh **** it, this ****ing truck is pissing me off.....
On my last outing I ruined my front bumper on the face of a sand dune. There are so many bumper options out there, making the decision was hard. I had settled on the Terrafirma, I like the plane styling and I figure I could add a light bar later. I could not however get over the cost of shipping, $200! So I settled on the Britpart front bumper from Atlantic British, I ordered it through eBay for $400 shipped. I never cheap out when it comes to my parts, I hope this doesn't bite me in the ***. Styling wise it's still the look I'm going for.
