I do love my 2000 D2. I have a 1964 Series IIa, but my disco is my daily driver and its my pride and joy.

Torque conveter

There is a place in Newark NJ that can rebuild them. I had a similar issue w a BMW one that I got rebuilt for $300. Good as new. I wish I could remember the place

Front engine noise

Replaced idler pulley and SERP belt, didn’t fix, zeroed in on alternator, ordered a new one, installed and fixed the prob, amazing how tight old alternator was once we got it off and spun it. Back in business

That's why you should remove your belt when troubleshooting noises or just occasionally as preventive mx. Each pulley/idler bearing can be checked by hand, all except crankshaft and hyd. pump(s) should rotate easily by hand. Bearings out of grease or dragging can usually be felt or heard long before they begin producing the "help me" sounds. Back to the basics.
