After having a new Magnaflow 93689 Y pipe installed a month or so ago, I've been chasing down all of the exhaust leaks one by one and finally think I've got them all! fingers crossed.

Most of the problems were caused because I did not leave the truck overnight at the shop who did the installation, so they were tightening things down while everything was still warm.

Turns out it was a good thing I had someone else do the work, One of the studs broke off in the pass side manifold so they had to remove the manifold and reinstall it with the new studs.

My first leaks were four of the manifold bolts being loose. Then of course the downpipe bolts needed tightening, easiest from underneath it turns out... Funny how fixing one leak leads to discovering a new one downstream!.

Next I noticed leaks at the band clamp holding the two sections of the pipe together going into the Y, and again at the flange where the end joins the front muffler. first i tightened the bolts on both but no love. Still leaking as tight as the bolts will go. Then I noticed that the joint going to the muffler pipe looked crooked so i loosened the bolts, used the bottle jack to raise up the Y pipe until things were even and tightened that back up and at the same time installed a new band clamp:

Amazon Amazon

The two bolt banded lap clamp from Walker did the trick! The skinny band clamp supplied by Magnaflow was junk, not up to the job. The lapped clamp provides a perfect seal.

Now I hear all of the faint engine noises more clearly!!
