Also, wouldn’t a crack behind the sleeve cause coolant to work it’s way into the combustion area and “steam clean” the cylinder it was leaking into? All of my cylinders, pistons and valves look exactly the same (high carbon buildup). Just a thought... Thanks!

Did some driving today and averaged 13.1 mpg.. had just changed out the previously trash bosch spark plugs. Runs so much better its ridiculous.

last fill up on bosch plugs averaged like 8mpg lol. Have mud tires so I'll take 13mpg all day.

Nice. I’ve found these trucks aren’t so bad on gas if kept in tune and driven sensibly.

Default New Rock Sliders

Primed, installed and painted new rock sliders from Dark Crow Designs. 6 hour job which burned up my drill but they are done.

Etch and prime

Setting in place

Lining it up

Drilling this out burned up my drill!

One coat of herculiner

Close up of the finish so far

On average, I did less than nothing. 😠

I installed my rebuilt front driveshaft. Drove it some and there was a slight vibration, then a crunch and then lots of vibration. One of the circlips must not have been all the way clicked in place. When I got under to take a look, one of the bearing cups was gone.

I removed my rebuilt front driveshaft.

A few days ago I noticed a drip of fresh ATF hanging from the tranny drain plug. I tried to snug it up just a bit tighter and the head twisted right off.

Today I got an easy-out and a bolt/crush washer to replace the plug. Took a drill to the (headless) plug and the drill grabbed it and twisted it right up into the pan. Went to put in the new bolt and learned that M10x1.5 is not the correct size. Must be 1.25.

Good news is that the 3 amigos are gone. My repaired SVS did the trick, I just had to wait a day or so. Snow in forecast; fingers crossed.

Finished gapping all the rings
All the oil rings were in spec
9 of the 16 compression rings needed filing of .004+ to be in spec
Takes a while, but easy, and worth doing.

Those piston rings may be the only blueprinted parts on my whole truck!

Well its certainly impressive to an IT geek like me. I continue to be in awe of all you guys who rip these engines apart every weekend and put them back together like lego blocks. As I have found out countless times, youtube is no replacement for experience!
