Met mine in person for the first time and took it for a drive.

It drives really nice. A few things tomorrow and I drive it home to San Diego on Sunday. Wish me luck!

Ice, made even slippery by the afternoon sun, coupled with a culvert/bridge over county drain that dips lower than the rest of the road during extreme freeze cycles (you can see bridge marker behind rear wheel in air)...they all got things started in the wrong direction. Had it saved for a minute after crossing bridge, and getting slightly side ways...but then a row of potholes immediately following got me crossed up again and it was over. Luckily, l was only going about 25mph...or it would have probably got across the ditch into the trees or on its roof. It just about went over onto roof, but dropped back down on its side. Boy, there was crap everywhere, you never realize how much stuff you have in the center console...until you tip it over. As i was undoing my seatbelt and accessing damage, looked down and said...hey, there's the tire gauge l was looking for the other day...lol. Grabbed my three packs of cigars at my feet and climbed out.

The silver lining to this somewhat dark cloud is...the front bumper, grill, A/C condensor/cooling fan and headlights (and a few other odds and ends) are what l need for my wife's 03 after she hit a deer last winter.

Just a bit*h, because they were both pretty darn clean examples (well, besides all of the bird crap on old whitey in this picture...lol).

So, maybe this summer l'll make one runner out of the two.

@The Deputy The packed snow turned to ice can get treacherous pretty quick as you know, the potholes were just the icing on the cake. Glad you are ok.

@The Deputy Sorry to see the result and hear the story, but really glad that you escaped unscathed. There are other D2's and other days. Only one of each of us.

Default Poked a hole in the radiator....

...while replacing the water pump. Bought an '04 D2 back in August for about $5200. Leaks every fluid you can imagine. I took it on as an opportunity to learn how to work on cars as I never really grew up doing it. Classic overheating issue (cracked Thermostat.) Had to take it to repair shop to replace that as I was on my way to a business meeting. Still leaked fluid, so I snoop around and discover another leak coming from around the water pump. During water pump replacement, I poke a nice hole in the radiator.😖..replacement radiator arrives Wednesday 🙄 I'm learning lots.

$7.95 a pack...heck yeah l'm grabbing them...lol. .59 cents a pack, when l stsrted smoking Black and Mild cigars...in 1992...heck, five cigars for 12 cent a piece...those were the days!

Couple more pictures...

The silver 03 will get all of old whiteys parts to become whole again.

Pretty amazing, three rovers and not one on the road anymore. Defender is waiting for new turbo...or l should say...l'm waiting for the extra money for a turbo...lol.

May have to start riding my bike to work, heck, it's only 32 miles one way.

Much to ponder on around here.

Ugh. Did you have collision coverage? I'm guessing no. If she was running well perhaps you'll be able to sell the engine to someone on here and recover something. I know parting out a truck is a lot of work, but from the pics it appears you have space to store it for awhile. Maybe swap the transfer case and shifter into the '03 in addition to the other parts you've mentioned.
