Haven't moved mine on over week since I broke a motor mount and the fan exploded. (The fan took out the radiator, upper shroud, coolant return line, air box, and parts of the fan tried to punch up through the hood.). Then the shaft on the PAS pump decided to walk out about 4mm and shreaded the belt, so...
...in the last week I've done the following:
- Replace the radiator, fan, fan clutch, cooling return hose.
- Flushed and bled the cooling system.
- Replaced 2 motor mounts.
- Made a custom, 5-rib belt to get the truck home when it tried to slice 2 ribs off the existing belt. (All I did was trim the rest of the 2 ribs off, but I did it on the side of the road in the middle of the night!)
- Pulled and replaced the PAS pump with a brand new one.
Today,
- I'm re-bleeding the cooling system (temps just weren't stable enough for my liking before the fiasco with the PAS).
- Bleeding the PAS pump.
- Maybe (time permitting) replacing the rear drive shaft with a u-joint rear drive shaft. (I'm just tired of wasting $$$ on rotoflex couplers.)
Bad news. Sorry to hear this. I had this happen to me also it was the OME black fan with circle. It took out the copper loop line on the Power Steering return. hood, pipes hoses rad everything. May you please tell us what fan you were using? I have the white Hayden Severe Duty. No cracks but it's old. If the light black OME fan did that much damage .. I don't want to think about what the Heavy Hayden fan would do.
Am wondering how your PAS shaft would decide to walk out ..
Was checking for a vacuum leak or clogged intake. Pulled off passenger valve cover hose to intake. This is what I saw. See photo A metal insert. I was expecting plastic AND if clogged was going to bore it out. I removed the plastic intake connector but didn't install the metal pcv just yet until Identify the part in photo if its a previous mod or genuine part. Or if I should remove then what to insert to use the pcv mod? Mine isn't clogged at least. I have gone 9yrs amigo free now it likes to show up on start up intermittent. I can shut it off and restart and 99% of the time it won't be back until the next cool down start. But swapped out the shuttle valve I had a spare and it still happened today. So will attempt some other diagnostic with a scanner later. And reattached rear 3rd brake light. Someone hit the rear end and it came off and dangled. Some reason it was never added to the insurance claim. Changed some turn signal lights that got knocked out but they are led and hyper flash not sure if that is excepted here in MA. No major issues tackled today. Still have frame work to do rear 1/4. Update found the answer in the best 4x4mod under someone's 03 post on the pcv mod shows that metal is the baffle but under a metal cap which needs to be pulled out then drilled out and remove the plastic insert and press back in and attach hose.

Yeah, uh, I doubt you'll get a reply from dcarr1971,
The post is from 12 years ago, and he was last active on this forum 9 years ago next week.

That is factory equipment in 03-04. Starting in 03 California significantly tightened emissions controls and LR put that restrictor in the valve cover tube with the baffle. It can easily be removed by grabbing the top of the tube with a pair of pliers and twisting it loose from the valve cover. Once removed use a tubing cutter to cut the restrictor disc out of the top of the tube.
Did nothing with either my D2 or D1 today, but a couple of weeks back did the 'Golden Quest tour' of the goldfields of Western Australia in the D2 while towing a small caravan. In all about 1,400 mile round trip from Perth with some quite poor corrugated (washboard in the US I believe) roads. One of the highlights was having morning tea on the verandah of Hoover House overlooking the pit of the 'Sons of Gwalia' gpldmine. The house was so named after Herbert Hoover who was the mine's first engineer and superintendant at the age of 24, in 1898. As you would all know he went on to be the President of the USA from 1929 to 1933.
Only problem with the car was a loosened power steering pipe that had the good manners to not leak a drop until I stopped for a break - was on the inlet side so guess the suction kept the flare seated until I stopped. the D2 is a 2004 TD5 diesel with a manual transmission. Consumption towing the caravan was 12.2 litres per 100 kilometers.
