Went out to run errands and found a puddle under her. (Inset typical Discovery unreliability joke here). @longtallsally and I went over it via Facetime and I cannot figure for the life of me where the coolant is leaking from. When I drove it the day before I decided the power steering pump is on its last leg but that can't be it. On the last drive, she never got over 178.2 and rarely gets over 182 since installing the inline thermostat from @Extinct

I looked underneath and a few things look to maybe have some dampness but nothing to show the source. There is no fluid around the new Flowcooler water pump. The plastic line from the expansion tank to the radiator is solid. None of the radiator hoses look to have any issues and were all replaced when I installed the thermostat. My next plan is to pull the upper radiator shroud, fan and clutch, and lower fan shroud and run it for a few minutes to see if I can spot a leak.

Does anyone have any thoughts or area to look at before I tear her down?

 

Get the pressure test kit from advance auto and it will make it super easy to find, usually you can hear it.

That puddle is centered under your radiator. You sure you didn't accidentally puncture the radiator fins when replacing your water pump?

 

I don't think so. I could not figure out the leak so I had it towed to my mechanic. He pressure tested it and both ends of the plastic pipe that runs from the expansion tank to the radiator are leaking but not enough to cause that puddle. He's backed up but will dive in soon. He's also replacing the power steering pump

 

It's currently 15° with a windchill of 0°. Yesterday even colder with more wind. 12' of powder snow on the ground and a travel emergency ban, only first responders and utilities workers. And me.

Nothing plowed except major roads so far, so I hooked up my off road camping trailer (without the tread plate lid), borrowed my son's snowblower and with both sons' help did 9 driveways around my neighborhood and theirs, as well as multiple feet of sidewalk. No trouble pulling the trailer out of the snowdrift around it. Got 29,000 steps on my Fitbit as well.

And gotta love the block heater on my Disco. Plugged in and always ready to go with 120° on my Scangage.

Saw all these folk in their crossovers and 4 doors with "AWD" not understanding why they were stuck in the snow as I passed by them, wallowing in their driveways.

I felt inspired by H Hill's photo. Not directly Land Rover, but the Disco has been getting us to the hill and back very reliably. We could use some of the snow that you folks on the east end of NA have been getting, but we've been enjoying what we've got.

 

Finished injector harness, installed a new left turn signal relay. Then had to back out of my shop up the immediate steep unplowed hill. I ended up making a 20 point turn, had customer cars everywhere and little control but it felt good to get it up and running again. Handled deepish snow and ice like a champ. Picked kids up from school and got mixed reviews about how high it was compared to our new gladiator haha

 

First time going out after a storm and being the one breaking trail.
