Default What to do to replace valve cover gaskets?

Hi everybody, I`m new on this; I never before worked in an engine, thats why need help because my D2 had oil leaking problems and some mechanic told me its from the valve cover gaskets (left side).

Can someboby told me if it is a job easy to do?

Thanks....

Rod

Rod-go to Sears and buy a 12 point 8mm socket in 1/4" drive.
Then you will also need a 1/4" drive rachet and 6" extention.
Tighten the bolts on the valve cover, both sides of the engine, the leak will stop.
This happens to EVERY Land Rover and it is recommended that you tighten those bolts every oil change to prevent leaks.
Just snug them up good, dont reaf on them, just good and snug.

Thank you Spike:

I'm goin to tight the bolts on the valve cover, but I have a question, (it maybe could sound stupid); the bolts situaded outside of the valve cover are easy to reach, but what happen with the inside bolts, how can I reach to tight them?

Thanks again.

If I wasn't the orginal owner of the vehicle, then I'd remove the valve cover completely. There are little metal spacers on each bolt hole, and it's VERY easy for them to fall away upon valve cover reinstallation. If any of those are missing (especially the ones at the rear) then simply tightening the bolts won't do the trick (could actually make the leaking worse).

So I'd remove the cover, inspect the gasket, remove any debris around the edges, make sure one of those little spacers didn't pop out and is sitting in a drain hole in the head, then carefully reinstall. While you're at it, do a simple valve clearance adjustment.

Dont worry about those ones, oil wont leak from the "top" of the valve cover, you know, gravity and all.
The "bottom" side is the side that leaks because the oil pools on the low side and then seeps out.
Snug up the bolts you can reach and fagetaboutit!
