Started noticing it really subtle a couple days ago. Then replaced the differential fluid today (https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...d-today-98857/), found all those shavings, and now it's making this terrible noise. Not sure if they're related but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Stupid question... I always refer to the part you're talking about as wheel bearings, but LR calls them "hubs" right? For the sake of ordering parts...

 

yes. Jack it up and spin the wheel. Should not be rough, should turn smoothly..... or drive it slowly around a parking lot and turn the wheel 'stop to stop' and see if the noise comes and goes...

 

Were you stopping? What conditions cause the noise?

 

No brakes applied; just driving straight. I think it’s the wheel bearing since the three amigos is also on.

 

Reporting back. It was a toasted front differential.

 

good find. Is there a bad hub as well? Sometimes these issues go together.....

 

Yep, both hub bearings were crunchy, but it was the passenger side hub that had some significant play in it. That being said, after replacing the hubs, the noise continued for another day until the front differential grenaded itself. So it was that.

 

Sounds like you might have a rooster stuck in your fan!
