Default What info is a VIN

Looking to buy an '04 discovery SE and I'm trying to determine if it has SLS and ACE(?) or not. The VIN is SALTY19404A858286. I once heard that the VIN can tell you the option info for the veihicle. True? If not, how will I be able to tell if it has these options when I go to take a look?

Thanks!!

The VIN only tells you the year its made, where its made and what "area" (country) it was for.

To tell if the vehicle has ACE is easy, when you open the bonnet (hood), look at the power steering reservoir on the right, if it has 2 caps, it has ACE. As far as SLS goes, 2 easy ways to tell, 1 it will have a switch on the dash, or easiest is look at the rear suspension, if you dont see big coil springs, then it has rear air suspension

I'll check the VIN see what comes up anyway ref factory fits.........

Well,

From what I know (it may not be correct),

Its a 5 seat SE in white
with 4.6 HC engine with evap emissions
Diff lock fitted
Heated seats
Homelink
18" wheels
Rear COIL suspension
Black Leather
Tubular Roof rails
Electric seats
Tow Pack fitted.
Front Fogs

etc etc,

heres whats IN a VIN

To answer your question, look thru a rear wheel well and you can see if it has springs or an air bag.
For ACE, look at the power steering bottle, if it has 2 caps, it has ACE.
Hope that helps. If you have any questions on a specific find get back to us, especially on the price.

The Vehicle Identification Number program was initiated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1980 as a way to standardize car serial numbers. Cars built before 1981 don't follow a universal standard and thus require manufacturer-specific information to decode. Why was this worth the ISO's time? Simple: The whole thing was created to ensure that no one car — make, model, production run, etc. — was ever passed off as another.

Decoding a VIN is an easy way to make sure that you don't get ripped off in a purchase — either by buying a vehicle pretending to be something it isn't, like a stock Mustang dressed up to be a special edition Cobra, or by purchasing a car with a salvage or rebuilt title.
