Somehow lost the screw that holds the dipstick tube against the driver's side valve/rocker cover.

I've tried a number of machine thread and self tapping screws,....but no luck.

Can anyone tell me if this is a small bolt/machine thread screw or a self tapping screw? If it's a machine screw,........is it SAE or Metric Thread? (Since there are various fasteners on the engine that are SAE thread still,.....from back when this was a Buick engine)

Looks like machine thread on mine, could not guess if it is meteric or not.

Shoot, I know this has been covered here. I think there was a resolution, but I couldn't swear to it. I've had this on my list to do for a while too.

Try a search, but I'll do the same.

I was putting my valve covers back on, and that screw looks like a "thread cutting" screw, as opposed to a plain old sheet metal.

 

Hmmm, so, not a machine thread?

Well, I saw threads inside the hole of the VC. But turns out it is a blunt nose self tapping screw, just does not a sharp point on it like a sheet metal screw. And it is not a thread cutting screw like those that have 8-32 threads and a tapered nose that actualy cuts threads like a tap when inserted. Sorry, it was dark, and I screwed up.
