I can't think of anything I've bought myself that was really offensive, but I think the worst I've read about is people spending $1100 at the dealer for a new front propshaft when their old one could be rebuilt for $70 in parts.

You can get one of these in brass at a plumbing supply store for less than a dollar. Brass is better as the treads on the inside are brass too.

I did a right up on this somewhere on here with the proper size to get.

Where did you find one for $45? Or was that a D1? Because I couldn't get one anywhere (dealer & AB said no).

The problem with plumbing supply stores is most don't carry BSPF, which is what the thread actually is, not NPT, which is the most common ANSI pipe thread.

Rovafarms has brass plugs for the DI for around 5 bucks if I remember right. I ordered one recently but it hasn't come in yet.

I have to say this is out of my realm - I took the old plug and the threads matched so I hope its the right one. 5,000 miles later not a drop has leaked though.

I know right, but no one sells them for the D2.

Most offensive is dealer wanting $114 for a marker light on a D1. He said I couldn't buy just the socket, I have to buy the complete wiring harness. Also, the dealer wanting almost $600 to do a differential and transfer case drain and fill

I needed a new hood cable this summer. Called the dealer who said it would be at least $600. AB was $30 and it took about 1/2 hour of time to do.

If you are talking about for the diff plugs the DI and DII take the same ones, so just order DI plugs.

The most offensive was $1200 for valve cover gaskets leaking! The worst thing was I paid for it because I was young and stupid and thought money grew on trees. Oh how times have changed!! LOL... kind of.
