Re read the thread, .......I had to find out for myself.

Sorry the video quality sucks. I had to use my iphone. BTW, this T-case was making the noise BEFORE I drained it and opened it.

Enjoy

YouTube - ‪Land Rover Discovery II Transfer case gear spin‬‏

P.S. Now we know what SPINS inside the t-case without any doubts.

Sounds like one of the cages on the ball bearing went through the race. Leaves the ***** out of round and the vibration and noise. I've never heard a taper with the clackety clack I hear in the vid. Had a Nissan trans that sounded just like that and it had a blown ball bearing.

I was unable to tear open the case to get to the root cause. the owner swapped it out with another t-case. I figured I would post the video so others can see how our t-case runs.

Damn Josh, do you have a death wish or what?
How hot was it under there?
I dont know how close you actually were to all the turning gears and props shafts but damn dude, you've got scones!!!
I never knew that the gears inside the t-case were turning when the trans was in neutral, I thought that putting the trans in neutral unhooked it from the t-case.

Hey Phil,

who's to say it wasn't on a lift instead of 4 jack stands...lol!

Yeah it was plenty dangerous but I figured if it fell on me it would roll off instead of pinning me to the floor. HAHAHA J/k!

Now we can all see how it works and NO ONE has to try it and risk getting hurt. i had a a fan blowing on me for thermal protection!
