Question What are the symptoms of a tired fuel pump ?

Hi all. 150,000 miles on it.
Hard to start after a few days stopped, after long/repeated crank barely starts with much slower idle, and as smells gasoline some times, suspect the fuel pump will need replacement soon. What are your experiences ? Does it come with proper new gaskets/seals/filter or have to buy something else ? Saw them for ~$40 at ebay...

Edited - non SAI

Note that there are different fuel pumps depending on whether you have SAI. I believe the non-SAI one is tougher to source from eBay (I ended up getting a Bosch genuine one).

Can’t offer much guidance on symptoms of failure (mine worked fine aside from the tank float which tells the gas gauge how much fuel you have). P

Sounds more like tired injectors to me, like they might be sticking open. If it smells like fuel when it's idling then it's too rich. A tired fuel pump would make it lean.

Injectors are a guess assuming there are no bad sensors, but it could be a sensor or something as well. Any engine codes? Pull the spark plugs and see what color they are. Throw us a picture. That will tell if it's running rich or not, though it may not be conclusive if the computer is correcting for it once it's past idle.

I'd also check and see if your IAC valve is functioning correctly. Will it fire up quicker if you hold the throttle cracked just a hair?
