Just replaced my pcv valve with the 4x4 mod along with Valve cover gasket and came across these hoses and I'm confused in where they go. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For the gazillionth time on this forum, they are vent lines for the front diff and transfer case and are meant to be open and not connected to anything.

Maybe a little explanation will help. Axles heat up and cool down, so they need to breath so pressure doesn't build up and cause oil leaks, and vacuum doesn't build up when we drive into the pond and water sucks in. The tube's ends are placed up high so we can ford mighty streams and still keep the water out.

The transfer case breather hose on my D1 slipped off the firewall and fell against the exhaust manifold - the breather hose is plastic and it was melted closed - pressure built up in the transfer case and blew the gear oil out though the seals subsequently causing the transfer case to self-destruct from a lack of lubrication as I was driving on the highway. Good times

Bummer. Sounds like a case of all the wrong stars aligning.

It was a very whiney transfer case so it was going one way or the other but not fun breaking down - luckily it wasn't far from home away from home
