I was reading somewhere recently, and I forget the link, where Defenders are still assembled by hand making them very costly to produce. Some years, the line was even losing money.
The same article mentioned that the Defender's upgrade/replacement in 2012 would probably be offered in the US.

All factory brush guards are ABS plastic and for looks only, they dont really do anything.
That will be a sad sad day when the last Defender rolls off the assembly line.
The price of used ones will double.
