Default Where is my tranny leaking from? It's not the pan gasket.

When I bought the disco I owned it about 10 days before the block cracked. I figured that served me right for buying a Land Rover and it's about what I expected.

LS swapped over a bit ago and it's mostly a solid vehicle now.

HOWEVER..... prior to the swap I believe it had this leak and it continues. I thought it was the large O-ring so I replaced it, still it's leaking this week and I'm not sure where from. What might be the other common leaks? I REALLY hope it's not the input shaft because getting that separated from the LS swapped engine is a NIGHTMARE compared to the stock engine. I can't quite tell where the leak really is coming from, it strangely seems to run all over a bit, it does seem to be mostly around the bell-housing area which..... makes me nervous. Are there some other common leak spots I should be checking? It's not the cooling hoses in/out.

Many thanks.

One of the breather, if your tranny is over pressure they can spit out fluid

I had a leak from one of the "plugs" on the lower part of the section between the bell housing and the transmission pan. There are four of them. I've no idea what they are for. They each have crush gaskets. One of the transmission fluid coolant lines got into it on the bottom. I could see the fluid coming out from around the base of the plug (bolt). As soon as i replaced the crush gasket and tightened it up....Leak stopped!

(It didn't really leak when the engine was off....As soon as it was running, it dripped a lot from that spot.)

I'd drain some of the fluid before you remove the plug. I learned the hard way and got fluid all over me.

Hope this helps!
