Will this damage the power steering pump?
If I run the engine with no fluid in the power steering pump, will it be damaged? I don't intend to drive the vehicle (or turn the steering wheel), but I would like to start the engine, but the high pressure hose from the power steeting pump to the cooler won't be hooked up (It's damaged and I need to buy another one. But at $125 for a new hose, I want to make sure the used engine I'm installing will run before spending more money).

The hose could probably be repaired (it's just damaged threads), but it's a timing issue for me. I'm renting a car during the motor swap, so the more time I take to get little things fixed, the more the rental costs. I'm going to work on the threads tonight and see if I can fix them. They're M16 1.5p, so dies aren't readily available (the only one I found locally was in a set at Harbor Freight that costs $75).

Check at DAP, they go for $75. http://www.dap-inc.com/
Yeah, metric dies are a bitch to get. I pulled a fast one on HF, I needed to clean a thread and got the set, used it for less than 5 minutes and took it back. Not honest, but heck sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
