Default Winch or diff lock?

I have a thread going about adding a cdl to my 03, as I add up the cost Im starting to wonder maybe I should just put the money towards a winch. With a winch it would have good resale value and I have the option to switch it to another vehicle if and when we replace the disco. The tc does ok for the kind of trails we run but you occasionally run into situations like unavoidable deep mud holes that you would be stuck regardless of diff lock, its just a ground clearance in the soft slop kind of an issue. That being said diff lock sure would make a lot of situations much easier. So, what would you guys do. If you could only get one, winch or diff lock which would you do and why.
Thanks

I have a 2003 Disco. I have had the opportunity to compare traction-control prior to installing the diff lock. Diff lock capability greatly improves your off-road capability, especially in the wet and muddy Pacific NW terrain for me.

You mentioned limited funds. You will also have to remember adding a winch may also require looking at other corresponding additional cost areas (such as bumper, winch mountings, beefier front springs, etc). Bank for the buck... personally, getting a diff lock first is the better option.

I added a heavy duty bumper, winch, 2" lift and beefier springs later on when more funds became available. I have not had to use the winch yet on my numerous off-road outings.

Here is a good video for reference:

If you take the offroad risks while traveling solo, then get the winch first. If you're usually with another vehicle, then diff lock first. The winch is practically indispensable for self-recovery. But if you have another vehicle to tug you out, the diff lock will make many kinds of obstacles much simpler.

Good reasons for both. I do almost always travel solo.

My D2 was transformed in its off-road performance (on sand) by adding the diff lock lever (the box was already a locking one). I also have a winch.

I've used the diff lock loads of time but never used the winch yet - because I haven't got stuck since adding the locker.
