Window regulator or motor?
So, just for future reference, how much is a used window motor? 99 D2, front driver side. Shipped to 74055.
mattmoto78,
What ever came of this situation? My drivers side window just did the same thing, all of the symptoms you describe sound like mine. Wondering what to anticipate ordering, how much and what to plan on with R/R...

The motor in mine had a stripped gear. The regulator seemed fine, but I went ahead and replaced it also. Got a used window motor, installed it, and it works like a charm. Send Abran a PM and see if he has any motors for you.
If it's the original regulator it's almost sure to be that. Motors are good and rarely burn out. Changed my drivers (LHD) regulator recently and bought a new aftermarket unit off Ebay (cheap as chips £16=$24 ) and fitted that with the original motor, now it's as good as gold. The motor cutout point relies on resistance of coming to the end of the gear rack which causes it to cut out, very crude but effective. The gear rack centre pivot wears drastically and the motor gear over runs the end of the rack and the window stays down. There are other causes but this is the most common.
The other problem is the small plastic/nylon rollers in the regulator fall apart and the window drops when they come out of the track. Another common occurrence. hey ho, most are 10-15 years old and have been well used and subject to vibrations for that time, not bad to last that long.

The gears inside the motor will bust in 1/2. Usually caused by the regulator going out. These trucks are 10 to 16 years old. Lots of plastic gears in these things...they have become brittle over time and will surely brake soon. I have replaced both front regulators and motors.
