If I need to do a patch in wiring is 16 gauge right? I could tape the wire up where it got frayed a little, but might be best to patch it just in case.

 

Depends on what the wire's connected to. There are many different sizes for all types of circuits in these trucks. One size wire isn't going to fit the bill for all of them.

 

Stupid of me. It’s the white and green (?) wire that’s in a snake under the large vacuum can that’s on the passenger side toward the windshield in the upper corner. I’m not sure what that wire controls - it’s a little bit frayed, but maybe not too bad - I got the rat with a 2x4... had to remove the cowl and now that’s trash too. Fun with rodents.

I’ll have to figure out how the vacuum can is mounted so I can remove it and patch the wire, unless it’ll be alright to wrap it with electrical tape and put it in new tubing, which I’ve been doing - almost done just one or two more to wrap. Some of the tubing was in bad shape and some appears to be fine, so I left that stuff.

 

Now that we can see what the damage is, just wrap it with some electrical tape and call it a day.

 

Thanks, it’s a little frayed but I’ll just tape it up.

 

For repairs like this I like hot glue - it insulates the wire and also keeps moisture out to protect the wire.

 

Thanks, that’s a great thing to know. The glue won’t melt in the engine bay? I need to wrap that snake in tubing and tape it up since I guess it’s one of the ones that being exposed to a lot of heat.

 

Nope! Got to be a fair bit hotter than engine bay temps to melt the glue.

Thanks, it’s right under the vacuum can and for some reason that split tubing is falling apart, which is how it got tasted by the rodent, while a fair amount of the other tubing isn't cracking so I figured it was hotter there. It’s mostly that tubing but where it runs down toward the frame and along it back somewhere.
