Default Wires & Splice under dash - 'wotsit?...

I am new to electronic puzzles and will have to dig out a copy of the RAVE but am wondering if someone can tell me what I'm looking at here? I recently had some work done on my Rover and a few wires are poking out from under the dash (photos attached). My question is - what is the deal with the spliced wire? The short end goes to a nut (ground?) under the brake pedal and the longer end goes up under the dash. Does anyone have any idea why I'd have a spliced wire? I've had the vehicle for six years and never noticed this but then again never had any reason to look either. I'm the second owner and the PO was fairly particular with documentation. Turn a blind eye to the carpet - the vacuum isn't my forte.

After market wiring for who knows what, you'll have to follow it. The RAVE has color coded diagrams for circuits, and the small numbers refer to connectors that you can see in the electrical library, with photo of location.

1) Do you have any aftermarket parts installed? (radio, oil pressure gauge,....)

I would follow it in the engine bay and find out where it goes. It may be an aftermarket wheel sensor.

good luck

Thanks guys. I do have aftermarket fog lights so I bet you that is what it is. Haven't torn the dash apart...yet. I need to stop worrying about stupid stuff... good to know though, thanks again.

Be sure anything aftermarket has fuses on the supply side, a skinned wire can make a meltdown.

Just an update. The wires are to the fog lights and they, unfortunately, aren't fused. Looks like if I ever want to use them I'll have to get my act together and get it set up right Thanks again - I'll keep an eye on it.
