I recently purchased a 2000 D2 with 82,000 miles. Now that I have driven it for a few weeks and I'm getting useto how it drives I've noticed that it wants to wonder within the lane. I have some cupping on the front tires so I know that the alignment is not right. Before I crawl under to check things out is there anything I should look for besides the obvious loose ball joints in the steering and suspension?

The steering box freeplay is adjustable, so get that checked. Also check the steering linkages themselves for any freeplay. They canwear outand fail if not properly maintained. A few folks have lost steering control over the years due to failure of the pitman arm or tie rod ends.

Once you get the weak link sorted out, lots of folks recommend the Old Man Emu steering stabilizer.

Check the power steering arm where it joins the front end
(not at the ste box) I had the samething a few years ago
I took it to the Dealer for alignment they told me about it.

$200 with the alignment at the dealer.

Before you go spending any money on it, rotate the tires and see if there is a difference. Disco's are know to really cup some tire badily and still be in alignment just because they haven't been rotated. As for the alignment, there is only a toe setting, so if your aren't pulling and your steering wheel is straight, you can rule that out.

Thanks for the input. I'll rotate the tires and check out all of the linkages. It doesn't pull and seems to track straight. How about the suspension bushings? It's got 82,000 miles, is that something that may need attention? I've never had a four wheel drivebefore and was also thinking it may just be a artifact of have power to all four wheels??

Bushings on a D2 are hardly ever an issue where they were a night mare on D1's.

Sorry to get in on your post. But my rover walks around quite a lot too. I figured it was a combo of the short wheel base, Stiff OME lift and high center of gravity.

Additionally, my return-to-center is nearly non-existant (I've nearly ended up on the sidewalk a few times while aggressivly pulling into traffic from a side street)

Is return-to-center generally pour on rovers?
