Default Wont start and smoke coming from console.

Well..... sorry havent been on in while with update. Have had the 4L in for few months now and loved the thing till last weekend. We went out to eat and came home. Got up next morn to get mulch and thought dead battery. It crank like half slow turn then nothing. But no clicking like dead battery. After trying to jump with no change I took the battery out other vehical and still nothing. Even check with belt off thinking maybe an acc. locked up but all was good. I did notice that if Iheld on the key around 4 seconds I would get small hit of smoke from Ebrake boot. So yesterday put a junk duralast on and it does nothing. I plan to manually wire down to it to see if changed or works. But have a feeling stock starter going back on. Is there a common issue I didnt see with these things. Was hoping next big adventure on it would be the headliner but now just need to get running. Thanks in advance for any help.

Never heard of wiring in center console related to starting problems. I would check seat heaters (if you have them) and make sure they are off. Could be the waft of smoke is rising up through the console from underneath trans tunnel wiring near XYZ switch. Check from underneath for burnt wiring and shorts there, maybe a good idea to remove the window switches and take a peek from the topside, too.

Sounds like you have a ground fault somewhere. A loose ground wire perhaps?

I had a similar situation with smoke emanating from the console, but much worse. Search the forums for "Disco Inferno ". It turned out the negative battery terminal was loose. Yours may or may not be loose.

Point is the negative side of the electrical system for some reason ties into the e-brake handle when there is a fault in the circuit.

UPDATE...... Well sorry delay replying life been busy. After replacing it with no luck I took off to check. Come to find out one side replacement one the spade signal didnt work. Checked the old one and it worked. Put back on and was in business. I found out if you power just the signal it turns slow. I think main power came loose and all that was starting was power from signal wire. I plan to pull console for spring detail hopefully before end summer to make sure all is right. Now it back on road and now, ready to get lift and tires on that been sitting in basment since thanksgiving.

Default Lucas smoke replacement

You may want to replace the smoke you have lost.

make sure the ground strap is in the back of the head, otherwise the truck uses the emergency brake as a ground
