it's not going to flop out unless you did not mount it correctly. It comes with standard 1 DIN metal surround. you have to trim the OEM radio hole just a bit on the left and right sides to get the metal surround into place. ALSO! note that the onboard NAV maps do not come with the joying unit (like most GPS nav units) you will have to buy a monthly subscription or download the maps for a small one-time fee as described above. If you are decent with android/computer files, the install goes fairly easily. But there are a few non-intuitive steps, particularly in getting the APK going. You will also need a small memory device like a USB fob to migrate the files from the desktop to the android unit.

Also, since this is Android system, you can read all the OBDII data with an add on app and the appropriate OBDII plug in module (just like for your phone), which is cool..no more ultragauge wires

You can also install other free navigation software like CoPilot, Waze, or Maps.Me

but the nice thing about buying the software is that you don't have to join googleplay or give out your info like location, stores visited, personal info , and at least 6 other things......... that bothers me...

and there are some benefits to other nav programs if you are into 3D buildings, or certain other map designs, police locations, marketing, etc... I like iGo...super simple....

Dumb question...I think. Being an Android OS, does Apple CarPlay work with this unit - or do they make an Apple version?

Thx!

It's supposed to. click on the amazon link I provided above or check out the joying website for more details. I don't have apple phone, so I don't know first hand...maybe someone else has tried it...

Yep - all the info was there on the Amazon page. Seems pretty legit!

Thanks for posting, X

not sure if you are busting my chops for helping you.....but, yw, tony.....maybe start your own apple carplay thread when you get one of these?

I did not like the shiny machined groove inside the surround, or the way the rear of the 7" unit was unpainted. So it got a shot of satin black.

Not busting at all - and thanks again. I was already thinking about painting the back too!

Not going to start a CarPlay post until I get the engine back together and get her running. Should be soon. Got the block re sleeved and getting the rotating assembly put together by Q & E machine in Anaheim...

Thx Tony. the bezel comes off easily with removal of 10 screws. but the glass can then easily fall out. rustoleum satin black is still a hair shiny....but acceptable. can't wait for a few warm days to get this installed.....

I still don't like the modern ****. I left it because the chrome ring is easy to see.......
