Default XYZ switch

I did a search on the XYZ switch and read about a setting tool. Is this required for the installation of the switch?

It should be used, if you still get intermittent no starts then its possible its issue.

What exactly does this tool do?

The XYZ switch just looks like a plug and play item.

Is there a XYZ switch replacement guide w/ pictures anywhere on this forum? Do I have to go under the truck to replace it or can it be replaced with the console out?

Thanks!

The RAVE .pdf wasn't too clear on that unless I was looking in the wrong place!

I had to replace the XYZ switch in my '99 DII about 5 years ago. The tool is used only to ensure proper positioning of the switch on the shaft, so that when the transmission is in Neutral the computer thinks it is in Neutral. The switch mounts over the selector shaft but can be rotated several degrees before the mounting bolts are tightened.

I found it pretty easy to align it correctly without the specialized tool. And if you find it is not aligned correctly you can just loosen the bolts and use the trial-and-error method until you get it right.

You definitely do this from under the truck. I did mine without raising the truck, but please be sure to chock the wheels well because you'll need to put the truck in Neutral to align the switch. You'll also need a small, 1/4" drive ratchet and 10mm socket due to limited space to get at the nuts. It's a really easy installation, but I recall the switch cost something over $200.

Good luck.
