Default ZF trans in DI?

To DI owners.. I was curious which trans the DI's have the ZF4HP18 or 22. Reason i ask. My sister has a 95 SWB RR that she will give me really cheap, its really tough looking older RR, anyways. I know that when LR went to the 4HP24's in the DII it was a huge improvement in terms of shifting accuracy and kickdown response. This RR hunts between 3-4, like constantly shifting when around 35-45mph. Do the DI's do the same thing?

I do not know which trans the DI has, but yes, they hunt for 3rd and 4th gear under 50mph, this is why if you run it in 3rd while under 45mph it will not do this.
I dont think it is reallt hunting for gears though, I think it is the touqre convertor locking and unlocking. I never notice a huge RPM change, like going from 4th down to 3rd, but if I downshift manually from 4th to 3rd while the cruise is set at 45 then there is a bigger jump in RPM.
Does that help confuse you?

I understand it. but im not sure they would alow the torque converter to unlock like that all the time because its not as efficient when its unlocked thus an emissions thing, but could be the case. it would def be nice to have it push button though so instead of the truck kicking down you could let the motor spin up a little more and keep it in 4. I know once its locked in my DII its locked until it totally cools down, and you have to catch the throttle just rite before a hill or it finds 3 or2 just to keep going. as garbage trucks honk and pass me

so they hunt..
thanks

Well DII's have a electronic trans, so they shouldnt hunt like they do, but they do.
And I know what you are saying about the tourqe convertor, I dont know/understand it either.

With the eariler ZF's, make sure the shift cable is set properly, can make a big difference in your shift points.
On the D2's, if and when they start hunting between 3rd. and 4th., it can ususaly be a MAF failing causing a P0733 or P0734 out of ratio fault code. It can also be the adaptive memory needing to be reset thru the ECU.

thanks so much for the input. i wasnt saying my D2 is acting strange it just doesnt have the power in 4 to keep from downshifting. im very used to driving it and anticipate these shift points. But i may have to pick up the RR as an extra toy due to the price and condition. Seems the way the 22 shifts in that truck is common.
