Intermittent knocking sound
Greetings, I have perplexing issue I would love to have some help with. My Land Rover is a 2018 Discovery Sport SE (AWD 4 cylinder 2 liter 45k miles). There is an intermittent knocking sound coming from, as far as I can determine, the front end. It sounds a lot like someone tapping on a small drum (I'm going to attempt to add a video with the sound). The tapping is random. It doesn't coincide with road conditions or bumps. The tempo increases with speed but seems to vanish when I am actively accelerating. The tapping is more prominent when I'm decelerating (not braking, braking has no affect on it, just when I take my foot off the accelerator and let the car decelerate on its own). This seems to make it louder and more frequent (as I said, it's not constant). Seems to be most prominent at around 25-30 mph. There is no shake to the steering wheel. It drives smooth and straight, not pulling to either side. No noticeable vibration in the floor board. Turning (gradually or sharply) has no affect on the noise. I haven't heard it in reverse, but haven't really tested it for any real distance in reverse. I jacked up the front end and all bushings look good (no tears, no leakage, no apparent dry rot). There's no play in the ball joints. CV axles look to be almost new with minimal play going into the Diff. Brakes are almost new. I can find nothing loose, but I may have missed something (I'm not a mechanic, just a dabbler). The video is at a speed of 30 mph (see attachments). I am at a loss.
I have the exact same issue. I have a 2017 Discovery Sport HSE with 98,355 miles. The sound appeared at about 60,000 miles at first then went away for 20,000 miles then came back and has been constant for 18k miles. Does the sound seem like it's coming from the passenger side? I took the car to the dealership and they said it's the entire axel Including seals. But if I'm being honest I don't think that's the issue but we'll see.
