I’d be grateful for any advice on what to do with a 2013 Discovery 4 HSE SDV6 with circa 60k miles.
The engine shut down on holiday and RAC said looked like broken crankshaft and new engine needed. Haven’t yet had it towed to the garage as I can’t find anyone that has capacity or skills (removing body) to do it.
I urgently need a safe family car now, with schools and clubs starting next week, and it would cost thousands to rental for weeks/months during repairs, so seem forced to buy another car. I’m thinking of a newer discovery (with a long warranty).
As a non runner it seems I can’t part exchange the broken car.
It looks like it would cost circa £12k to get a reconditioned engine and 12 month warranty.
Or it seems I could instead get a second hand engine (50k mikes) fitted somewhere slightly random from internet for circa £5k with a three month warranty.
If I were to get a either £5k or £12k new engine fitted, could I sell it and recoup some money?
Grateful for any advice what to do. I’m really feeling very stuck and unlucky!

do the cheap version if you just want to sell. do the 12K pound motor if you want to keep it.
